Samael
Orlock's nephew & Ambrosia romance option
Samael is Orlock's nephew and a confirmed romance option in Moonlight Peaks — a vampire of the Ambrosia family you first meet through Orlock's Wine Scheme quest.
If you’ve played through Orlock’s Wine Scheme — the demo’s early quest where Orlock palms off his wine debt on you — you’ve already heard Samael’s name. He’s Orlock’s nephew, a member of the vampire Ambrosia family, and now the game is out, he’s confirmed as one of its romanceable members.
From quest footnote to romance option
Pre-launch, Samael was mostly known as the guy Orlock owed money to for wine — a name mentioned rather than a face you met. Post-launch reviews have filled that in: he’s a full character with his own arc, and at least one reviewer specifically romanced him during their playthrough, confirming he’s dateable rather than just background family drama.
How to unlock Samael’s romance
Short answer: Samael starts capped at four hearts. Reaching those four hearts is useful preparation, but it does not unlock dates by itself. His remaining hearts open only after a late main-story chain, so this section contains story spoilers.
- Progress through the main story until Luna Bay opens and you meet the Hosu family.
- Complete A Curious Passage, then The Mysterious Bay. The latter includes clearing the fallen tree in Moonlit Pines and helping Ludo repair a bridge; the Luna Bay walkthrough covers the whole chain.
- Complete Bride’s Attendant Duty. Samael and Kim’s ceremony does not go ahead, and he remains unavailable for one in-game week afterwards.
- After that week, Orlock visits your home and starts the next step. Complete Unfinished Business to unlock Samael’s expanded heart track.
- If you already have four hearts, see his four-heart scene, then talk to him and use Invite followed by Ask on Date.
The clean play is to keep building friendship while you advance the story. When the gate lifts, you can date him immediately instead of discovering too late that the relationship menu was capped for narrative reasons. His first reported date is stargazing, so this is a romance lock, not a missing character bug.

Starting Samael’s first date
Once Unfinished Business has lifted the cap, Samael follows the standard launch-build dating loop. Get to four hearts, see his four-heart scene, then speak to him and select Invite → Ask on Date. The date starts only after you sleep: he collects you at the beginning of the next night. His reported outing is stargazing, where you identify the constellations he points out, so slow down and read the prompt instead of treating it as a passive cutscene.
Finishing the outing marks Samael as Dating in the relationship menu. From then on, the Give menu includes a daily kiss, and further gifts and dates build the relationship as normal. That makes his route much less complicated than its setup suggests: the unusual part is the story gate, not a separate romance system.
If you are deciding whether to commit, the key milestone is eight hearts. After seeing his eight-heart event, invite him on another date; the end-of-date dialogue is where the proposal becomes available. Proposing is exclusive: other residents you were dating fall back to four hearts, while a spouse moves into your home and opens two final hearts. See the romance guide for the system-wide sequence and the marriage guide for the wedding route.
The brooding barkeep of The Broken Lamp
The launch build gives Samael a real life beyond the Wine Scheme. He runs The Broken Lamp, Moonlight Peaks’ local bar, and he’s manned that counter for centuries — long enough to pride himself on an encyclopaedic knowledge of the finer things in life and unlife. His intense gaze tends to push people away, but he’s fiercely devoted to the ones who stick around, and under the brooding exterior he’s a true romantic. He spends his leisure hours alone, tending his roses and staring out across the bay, waiting — his bio pointedly trails off — for someone. Court him and you find out who that someone turns out to be. The bar is where you’ll reliably find him.
Part of the Ambrosia family
Samael’s closest tie is his sister Elvira — the only person who knows her fragile artistic side, just as she’s the one who sees past his brooding. The pair are Orlock’s niece and nephew, cousins to the café-running siblings Mina and Evan — all part of the Ambrosia vampire family, one of Moonlight Peaks’ seven families. If you’re courting one Ambrosia vampire, there’s a good chance you’ll run into the rest of the household along the way.
Samael’s loved & disliked gifts
Fitting for the bartender at The Broken Lamp, Samael’s loved gifts are wine. Player-confirmed so far:
| Reaction | Gift |
|---|---|
| 💜 Loved | Red Wine, White Wine, Violet Sashimi |
| 👍 Liked | Purple Azalea/Rose/Tulips, White Rose/Tulips, Red Tulips/Azalea/Lavender, Black Tulips, Yellow Azalea/Rose |
| 👎 Disliked | Pink Azalea |
Bring him a Red or White Wine for the biggest boost — handy, since you’re already making wine for Orlock’s Wine Scheme. Watch the shade on flowers: a Purple Azalea lands but a Pink Azalea misfires. For every resident’s tastes, see the full gift guide.
