Unlike most candidates, Samael can look bugged even when the game is working correctly. His initial panel shows only four hearts because the main story still treats him as committed elsewhere. Grinding gifts cannot open hearts that the narrative has not released.

How to unlock Samael’s romance

This section necessarily contains Luna Bay story spoilers. The verified sequence is:

1. Progress until A Curious Passage unlocks Luna Bay.
2. Complete The Mysterious Bay, including the fallen-tree and bridge steps.
3. Continue through Bride’s Attendant Duty and attend the ceremony.
4. The planned marriage between Samael and Kim does not proceed.
5. Wait one in-game week after the ceremony.
6. Orlock arrives and begins the follow-up.
7. Complete Unfinished Business to remove Samael’s four-heart cap.

If you already reached four hearts, the extra slots should become available after that resolution. You can then view the four-heart scene and ask him out. Do not restart a save merely because his panel is capped during the earlier quests.

His liked gifts include Purple Azalea, Purple Rose, Purple Tulips, White Rose, White Tulips, Red Tulips, Red Azalea, Red Lavender, Black Tulips, Yellow Azalea, and Yellow Rose. Pink Azalea is disliked, so read the color carefully; an azalea is not automatically safe.
