Moonlight Peaks Luna Bay Guide: Unlock Mermaids & Aqua Form

Luna Bay is a main-story unlock, not a place that opens on a fixed date. Progress until Ludo gives you A Curious Passage, use Cat Form to enter the small opening in the Howling Marshes, meet the mermaids, then complete The Mysterious Bay and Ludo’s Plan to connect the bay to town. The later Mermaid’s Wish quest rewards Aqua Form—the transformation called Mermaid Form by the achievement.

That is the short route. The frustrating part is that several steps wait on story scenes or supplies, so a player can reach autumn or winter and assume the save is broken when the next prerequisite simply has not fired. The sequence below separates the confirmed objectives from timing guesses.

Spoiler warning: This guide names the Luna Bay story quests and their objectives, but avoids the outcome of the wedding storyline.

Before A Curious Passage appears

Keep advancing the town’s main quests rather than sleeping through weeks while watching only the calendar. You need Cat Form, because Ludo’s opening in the marsh is too small for your normal vampire. The official wiki also connects the unlock to increasing your friendship with Ludo, while launch guides describe the broader story progression as the controlling gate. The safest plan is therefore to do both: follow main quests, speak to Ludo regularly, and clear any active town or coven scenes.

There is no reliable “Luna Bay opens on Autumn X” rule. Players reach it at different points depending on how quickly they finish story and relationship tasks. When the quest is ready, Ludo comes to you and sends you to the Howling Marshes.

Step 1: A Curious Passage unlocks Luna Bay

The confirmed objectives are simple:

1. Meet Ludo in the Howling Marshes.
2. Use Cat Form to pass through the small opening.
3. Meet Tae Hosu on the other side.
4. Report back to Ludo.

Completing that quest unlocks Luna Bay and introduces the Hosu mermaids—Kim, Rei, and Tae—but it does not immediately give you a swimming transformation. Think of this as opening the region and its story, not finishing the entire mermaid chain.

Step 2: clear the tree in The Mysterious Bay

In The Mysterious Bay, deliver Samael’s letter to Kim, ask the witches about moving trees, obtain the required spell from Webb of Wonders, and lift the fallen log. The easy mistake is searching the marsh near the new passage. The tree is actually in Moonlit Pines, beside the small waterfall west of the stairs leading to Luna’s seed cart and cottage.

Keep the quest active and check the mana cost shown by your current build before casting. The removal triggers a story scene, so finding a similar-looking log without the active objective will not substitute for following the quest. Our map guide has the landmark route.

Step 3: make Ludo’s Margherita Pizza

Ludo’s Plan asks you to bring him a Margherita Pizza in the Howling Marshes, then attend the Luna Bay party. Cook it at the Cooking Station with:

• 1 Blood Tomato
• 1 Flour
• 1 Cheese

The recipe is available from the first day, but its processed ingredients are the trap. If you have focused exclusively on crops and relationships, Flour and Cheese can turn this apparently small errand into a livestock-and-machines delay. Prepare the supply chain before the quest reaches this point; see cooking and recipes and livestock if either ingredient is missing.

Step 4: complete The Mermaid’s Wish for Aqua Form

The transformation reward comes from The Mermaid’s Wish, not from first entering Luna Bay. Follow the journal in this order:

1. Ask Yabbis about helping Kim grow legs.
2. Find one special shell in the Cave of Echoes.
3. Find the other special shell in Misty Shores.
4. Grind both shells in an Alchemist Mortar.
5. Bring the Special Shell Powder to Luna Bay.

Completing the quest unlocks Aqua Form. It lets your vampire swim, reach water-only locations, and use dive spots; the associated achievement calls the same ability Mermaid Form. If a guide uses either name, it is referring to this transformation. The subsequent Luna Bay quests continue the Hosu and wedding story, but they are not prerequisites for receiving the form.

If Mermaid’s Wish is stuck

As of August 6, 2026, do not assume that an announced 1.2.x fix is already installed. In an August 3 Reddit thread, a developer said the Mermaid Form progression issue has been fixed for the upcoming 1.2.x patch, was still in testing, and has no manual workaround for an already affected save. The reply also said the patched quest should recover when that save is loaded, so restarting a long playthrough is not the recommended conclusion.

Preserve the save, avoid risky save editing, note your platform and version, and watch the official patch notes. If 1.2.x is not listed for your platform, keep playing unrelated activities or pause that save rather than repeatedly forcing the blocked scene. Once the update arrives, load the save, advance normally, and report a remaining blocker with the exact completed objective and version number.
