Cat Shapeshifting in Moonlight Peaks? Demo Discovery Sparks Community Excitement

A Moonlight Peaks demo player recently shared a clip showcasing a cat transformation. Here is what we know about this expected shapeshifting mechanic.

With the July 7 release date drawing near, players are spending more time testing the limits of the Moonlight Peaks demo. While the developers have already highlighted the vampire’s ability to take flight in bat form shapeshifting, a recent player clip shared on Reddit has sparked a wave of excitement regarding another furry transformation: a black cat.

A video posted by a community member shows their character turning into a small black cat, complete with a playful animation that immediately caught the attention of cozy gaming fans. This sudden feline transformation raises questions about how shapeshifting actually works in the full version of the game.

Witchcraft Spell or Vampire Shapeshifting?

It remains unconfirmed whether the cat transformation is a permanent vampire ability similar to the bat form, or if it is tied to temporary magic. In folklore, vampires and witches frequently share a connection with black cats. In Moonlight Peaks, players can learn witchcraft and practice potion brewing.

Some community members suspect that this cat form might be the result of a specific potion, such as the Alter Ego Elixir, or a temporary spell rather than a core shapeshifting skill. In the current demo, players have access to basic magic, but the full scope of spellcasting is expected to open up significantly at launch.

How the Cat Form Could Affect Gameplay

If cat shapeshifting is indeed a usable mechanic, it could offer distinct advantages over the bat form:

  • Sneaking and Stealth: A smaller footprint might allow players to avoid detection or slip past certain obstacles.
  • Interacting with Townspeople: The residents of Moonlight Peaks, including werewolves and mermaids, might react differently to a cozy cat than to a flying bat or a vampire.
  • Accessing Tight Spaces: A cat can slip under fences or through narrow gaps that a human-sized vampire cannot reach.

While we wait for the final game to launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile platforms, players can download the latest build on the eShop (see our coverage of the Nintendo Switch demo) to see what other supernatural surprises might be hiding in the dark.
